Sassafras Wesley Vale Irrigation Scheme Augmentation

Project overview

The project involves augmentation at the Sassafras Wesley Vale Irrigation Scheme to deliver more water to farmers in the productive North West Tasmanian region.

Once complete, the augmentation project will mean delivery of up to an additional 9.2 gigalitres of water, support total delivery of approximately 14.9 GL of water annually into the existing Sassafras-Wesley Vale Irrigation Scheme, located on the northwest coast of Tasmania. Irrigators to benefit from the increased delivery of water are located across a number of areas of North Tasmania:

Northern Midlands Irrigation Scheme

Project overview

The project will harvest more than 25 gigalitres of irrigation water each year from the Poatina Power Station, delivering extra water to farmers in the region. The project includes construction of:

  • 3 pump stations
  • 2 balance tanks
  • Over 157 km of underground pipeline network.

Each summer irrigation season, the pipeline network will distribute water to areas across central Tasmania, including:

Dungowan Pipeline Stage 1

Project overview

Dungowan Pipeline

This project saw the construction of a new delivery pipeline that connects the Calala Water Treatment Plant to the Dungowan Showground. The new 21 km delivery pipeline establishes a reliable connection from the Chaffey Dam pipeline to Tamworth’s town water supply.

It replaces 70-year-old infrastructure that was leading to 2.2 megalitres in water losses every day.

Coliban Regional Rural Modernisation Preliminary Business Case

Project overview

The preliminary business case investigated the merits of modernising a network of 500 km of open channels and pipelines to 1,365 agricultural and rural customers located around the regional city of Bendigo.

The preliminary business case was completed in December 2022 and identified a number of modernisation options which could be further investigated as part of a detailed business case.

Macalister Irrigation District Modernisation Phase 1B

Project overview

The project upgraded the Southern-Tinamba Supply Zone by replacing the upper channel system with a gravity pipeline and automation and modernisation of 32 km of the existing lower channel system.

The project has improved water efficiency through reduced losses, as well as increased water availability and security through the creation of an additional 9,700 megalitres of water for productive use.

Nyngan to Cobar Pipeline Stage 1

Project overview

The Nyngan to Cobar Pipeline Stage 1 project will upgrade infrastructure in the Nyngan to Cobar Water Supply System. This will provide long-term water supply reliability and water security for the Cobar region.

The Nyngan and Hermidale pumping stations are old and cannot be repaired. Replacing the pumping stations will prevent a catastrophic failure in the supply system.

Construction is expected to commence in mid-2025 and be completed in late 2026.

Mount Morgan Water Supply Pipeline

Project overview

This project will construct a new pipeline to connect Mount Morgan’s water supply to the Rockhampton water supply network.

The pipeline will support water security for the regional town of Mount Morgan, which is near Rockhampton in Central Queensland. Having reliable drinking water will help the town to grow and provide development opportunities for its community.
