Funding
The project is jointly funded by the Australian Government ($108.9 million) and Tasmanian Government ($72.2 million) and other partners ($36.7 million). Australian Government funding is provided through the National Water Grid Fund.
Project overview
The proposed project will harvest more than 25 gigalitres of high surety water annually from the Poatina Power Station to deliver additional water to farmers in the region. The project includes construction of:
- 3 pump stations
- 2 balance tanks
- Over 157 km of underground pipeline network.
The piping network will provide water to scheme participants in the Campbell Town, Poatina, Lower Macquarie and the Isis River regions over a 180-day summer irrigation season. The scheme is designed to allow expansion opportunities for farmers across these regions and boost annual production.
