The project is jointly funded by the Australian Government ($108,981,415) and Tasmanian Government ($72,261,415) and other partners ($36,720,000). Australian Government funding is provided through the National Water Grid Fund.

Providing additional water to irrigators in the region will support the potential expansion of high-value crops.
Project overview
The project will harvest more than 25 gigalitres of irrigation water each year from the Poatina Power Station, delivering extra water to farmers in the region. The project includes construction of:
- 3 pump stations
- 2 balance tanks
- Over 157 km of underground pipeline network.
Each summer irrigation season, the pipeline network will distribute water to areas across central Tasmania, including:
- Barton
- Conara
- Campbell Town
- Ross
- Lower Isis Valley.
The high reliability of water means farmers will have confidence to expand their businesses.
Construction commenced in September 2024 and is expected to be completed in late 2026.
