Plastic bottled water being recycled

The Quality Water for Wannon Project will have the added benefit of seeing a reduction in bottled water consumption.

Project overview

The Quality Water for Wannon project will build new water treatment infrastructure to improve the water quality in the Victorian towns of Portland, Heywood and Port Fairy.

New water treatment infrastructure will reduce the high salt and mineral content to acceptable levels from the Dilwyn Aquifer groundwater supply.

New infrastructure will consist of three reverse osmosis treatment and fluoridation plants.

The project will improve the water quality to support increased consumption.

This will reduce community consumption of bottled water and soft drinks, leading to public health benefits including reduced obesity and related concerns.

Increased consumption of fluoridated tap water will also improve dental health.

The current tap water is also negatively impacting household appliances and local business equipment. Quality tap water will reduce household living costs by eliminating the need to purchase water, while bringing down maintenance costs on appliances and fittings to filter existing water.
