The project was funded by the Australian Government ($480,979) and the Southern Downs Regional Council ($2,790,442). Australian Government funding is provided through the National Water Grid Fund.

The project will mean an increase in access to recycled water for use in a variety of ways including irrigation of public parks and dust suppression.
Project overview
The project involves upgrading the existing recycled water treatment plant in Warwick to improve water quality and increase access to recycled water. Work includes:
- construction of a new complete filtration system
- installation of a UV disinfection system
- refurbishment of chemical systems.
High quality recycled water is currently used in the Warwick surrounds for irrigation of:
- public access areas, including local sports and recreation clubs
- school sports fields
- council parks and gardens.
The water can also be used for dust suppression and road construction.
The extra water to be made available will provide an additional 3.5 megalitres per day and will support up to 10 existing and future businesses.
Construction was completed in June 2023.
