Project overview
The Australian Government is committed to responsible investment in water infrastructure, based on scientific evidence and business cases that stack up economically and environmentally.
The Australian Government is no longer proceeding with construction of the Southern Forests Irrigation Scheme in Western Australia.
The Australian and Western Australian governments have progressed additional preconstruction planning activities through the Southern Forests Irrigation Scheme Business Case, funded by the National Water Grid Fund. This work has been informed by revised water modelling completed by CSIRO, released in June 2021, and extensive stakeholder consultation activities.
The Australian Government’s $39.7 million commitment to this project has been cancelled.
