This project was funded by the Australian Government ($37.6 million) and other partners. Australian Government funding was provided through the National Water Grid Fund.
Project overview
This project was intended to deliver new water treatment facilities in the Northern Adelaide Plains region, including infrastructure to treat, store and distribute recycled irrigation water. It was expected that a total of 12 gigalitres (GL) of water would be made available for horticultural production in the region, to be delivered in two modules.
Construction on the project commenced in April 2018 and it is partially commissioned, with the first 6 GL module completed and providing water.
Following a review by the South Australian Government of the uptake of the first module, which found only 3GL has been contracted, it was determined not to proceed with the second 6GL module.
