The NSW Connections Package is funded by the Australian Government ($10,546,600) and the NSW Government and other partners ($19,788,227). Australian Government funding is provided through the National Water Grid Fund.
Project overview
This package will deliver new and upgraded pipelines and water storage facilities.
This will help agriculture industries to expand. It will provide adequate water supplies and address storage and quality issues.
Collectively, these benefits will contribute to delivering secure, affordable and reliable water for rural and regional Australia.
New South Wales water infrastructure projects under the Connections pathway include:
Walcha Off-Stream Water Storage – project complete
Construction of a new 300 megalitre (ML) off-stream storage dam. This will improve water reliability to the Walcha community and agricultural users.
West Wyalong Water Reliability project – project complete
Upgrade of the existing West Wyalong distribution network This will support the expansion of the Lake Cowal Gold Mine. Water supply will also be available to agribusiness customers in the region.
Urbenville Water Supply project
Expansion of the existing Urbenville Water Treatment Plant. Raw water treatment infrastructure will be installed to improve raw water quality. The existing jetty will also be upgraded. This will increase certainty of supply for livestock, and dairy production.
Collectively, these projects are expected to deliver:
- 100 jobs during construction and more than 300 ongoing jobs
- 78.6 ML annual increase in water available for productive use
- 378.6 ML per annum increased water available for urban use.
