Funding
The project is jointly funded by the Australian Government ($6.4 million) and the Northern Territory Government ($5million). Australian Government funding is provided through the National Water Grid Fund.
The Milingimbi Water Security Strategy is a package of 3 design and construction projects across 3 locations on Milingimbi Island in the Northern Territory. The package will:
- equip 2 existing bores to increase supply, and construct an associated rising main and overhead powerline
- drill 4 new production bores and up to 6 monitoring bores
- installing equipment in up to 4 new production bores and 6 monitoring bores.
The projects will:
- improve the reliability of Milingimbi’s water supply
- unlock opportunity for housing development to reduce overcrowding
- enable community development and expansion of services
- support liveability and amenity measures including adaptation and resilience to the changing climate.
