This project was funded by the Australian Government ($250,000). Australian Government funding was provided through the National Water Grid Fund.

The project involves a review of the current and future risk profile of agrichemicals in the Keep River Catchment of the Kimberley region.
Project overview
This project involved a review of the current and future risk profile of agrichemicals in the Keep River Catchment of the Kimberley region.
Goals of the assessment
The outcomes of this assessment will assist in developing an understanding of management options. These options are aimed at reducing the offsite risk from agricultural chemicals to planned developments of the Keep River irrigation areas.
This project:
- developed a hydrogeochemical model for research testing
- measured pesticides, herbicides and nutrients in the Keep River Catchment
- assessed the risk of these agricultural chemicals to planned irrigation development in the area
- provided a report on quality management options.
About the Kimberley Region
The Kimberley is the northernmost of the 9 regions of Western Australia. It is known for large areas of rugged ranges, dramatic gorges, semi-arid landscape and largely isolated coastline. It is bordered on the west by the Indian Ocean and on the north by the Timor Sea.
The Western Australian Government also contributed $90,000 through in-kind contributions.
