The project is fully funded by the Australian Government. Australian Government funding is provided through the National Water Grid Fund.
Project overview
The purpose of the project was to identify options that would increase water security and provide a reliable water supply to the area to support irrigated agriculture in the Lakeland district of Far North Queensland.
The business case investigated the viability of a new dam on the Palmer River and an associated distribution system to transfer water to and around the Lakeland area.
The project was completed in August 2023.
