The package is jointly funded by the Australian Government ($190,000) and the South Australian Government ($150,000). Australian Government funding is provided through the National Water Grid Fund.
Project overview
The Iga Warta Water Security project will provide a boost to water supply quality and security in the Iga Warta Homeland. Local water quality will improve through new water treatment. It will also provide better drought resilience through new water supply and storage. This will support the community to invigorate tourism and businesses on the Homeland.
The project involves:
- construction of a new bore
- backfilling of the existing well and drilling of a new well installing a water treatment system
- installing two 125,000 litre water storage tanks.
Benefits include:
- improved water safety and security for the remote Homeland
- reduced barriers to staying on Country due to more certain access to drinking water
- economic and environmental opportunities like re-establishing native revegetation and horticulture.
Construction is expected to be completed in late 2024.
