This project is fully funded by the Australian Government through the National Water Grid Fund.
The Central Queensland Regional Water Assessment will carefully assess both infrastructure and non-infrastructure solutions for supplying adequate water within and surrounding the area of the Fitzroy Basin.
The assessment will explore potential ways to improve water security and explore opportunities for greater economic growth for the region’s key urban centres, including Rockhampton, Biloela and Blackwater. The preferred options will be identified for further consideration.
Information from detailed business cases or other relevant studies will be incorporated. This includes a study to examine the feasibility of desalinated water for new clean industry in Gladstone.
The assessment will establish a uniform and cohesive regional basis to inform government investment decisions about those projects.
The Queensland Government will deliver the assessment over the next 2.5 years.
