Work begins on Western Irrigation Network project
09 December 2020
Construction has begun on the $116 million Western Irrigation Network (WIN) following the signing of a funding agreement between the Australian and Victorian Governments.
The WIN project will deliver a new, secure source of water for large-scale agricultural use.
The Australian Government has committed $48 million to the irrigation project through the National Water Infrastructure Development Fund.
Combined with existing storages, the connected network will provide a total of 3.3 gigalitre-capacity, with the potential for future expansion.
Works for the WIN project will start this year and the network is expected to supply Class C recycled water to farmers by mid-2022.
