Paradise Dam wall repairs get the green light

24 February 2022

Paradise Dam, the main water source for the Queensland food bowl of Bundaberg, will be restored to its full capacity following a $600 million funding commitment from the Australian Government.

The funding commitment provides certainty to farmers in the Bundaberg region that they will have access to the water needed to support future business growth.

It ensures the dam’s capacity will be boosted back to 300,000 megalitres – the original capacity of the dam before its wall was reduced in 2019 as a result of structural concerns.

The Australian Government will establish a project team to work with the Queensland Government to ensure the rebuild progresses and Paradise Dam is built back to modern standards.

Work will begin on repairing Paradise Dam next year, with early works including upgraded road infrastructure and temporary worker accommodation.

The $1.2 billion Paradise dam improvement project is jointly funded by the Australian Government ($600 million) and the Queensland Government ($600 million).
