More federal funding for Dungowan Dam
The Dungowan Dam will receive a funding boost from the Australian Government, subject to finalisation of the business case and regulatory approvals.
Through 2022-23 Budget, the Australian Government will commit up to $433 million toward the construction of the dam, to provide a reliable water supply and improve agricultural productivity for the Peel Valley region.
Once built, the project will secure the long term water supply for the regional city of Tamworth and Peel Valley. The increase in water security will also support the region’s agricultural and primary industries, including the production of beef, sheep, grain, dairy and poultry.
This commitment takes the Australian Government’s total funding contribution toward Dungowan Dam and Pipeline to up to $675 million, with further funding coming from the New South Wales Government.
